Vohra raises concern over rising unemployment
URGES JAMMU & KASHMIR GOVT TO EXPLORE ALL POSSIBLE AVENUES TO ENABLE QUALIFIED YOUTH OF STATE TO BECOME SELFEMPLOYED
JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir governor NN Vohra on Saturday expressed his concern over rising unemployment in the state, especially of technically qualified youth.
Raj Bhavan spokesperson said governor has addressed chief minister Mehbooba Mufti and expressed his concern about the growing unemployment of technically qualified youth.
The governor also urged that the state government should start exploring all possible avenues, outside the governmental fold, to enable technically quali- fied youth to become self-employed.
It is learnt that the “All J&K Unemployed Agriculture Graduates Association” had presented a memorandum to the governor. “The memorandum states that while about 1,200 vacancies of assistant agriculture officers and junior agriculture assistant officers are available, the agriculture production department has taken no action to refer them to the concerned recruiting agencies,” the spokesperson said.
“Governor has advised that all the departments concerned should assess the updated position in regard to available vacancies and refer them most urgently to the recruiting agencies and, side by side, they must take the required initiatives to devise fresh approaches and new policies to provide meaningful opportunities for the self-employment of all technically qualified youth,” he added.
It may be stated here that the rate of unemployment in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) is higher than national unemployment rate, with J&K’S having 24.6% population in the age of (18-29 years) unemployed, which is more than national unemployment rate of 13.2%. It was revealed in an official document in January this year.
ADVISES TIME-BOUND FIRE SAFETY AUDIT
In the wake of the recent fire incident at Kamala Mills in Mumbai, which left 14 people dead and loss of property, J&K governor NN Vohra directed chief secretary BB Vyas to issue immediate instructions to all deputy commissioners in the state to conduct an immediate fire safety audit.
The governor has asked the chief secretary to get the fire safety audit conducted and seal all the premises which have the risk of catching fire or falling down.
