JAMMU: A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was killed in sniper fire from across the International Border (IB) in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday evening, triggering a heavy gun fight between India and Pakistan.

The deceased has been identified as havaldar RP Hazare, 51, from Murshidabad in West Bengal. He was posted with the 173rd battalion.

BSF sources said he was hit by a sniper fire right above his umbilical root.

Soon after the incident, he was rushed to district hospital in Samba where he succumbed to his injuries.
