VIGILANCE TO SUMMON FARIDKOT SP IN GRAFT CASE
FARIDKOT : The vigilance bureau (VB) is set to summon superintendent of police (investigation), Sewa Singh Malhi, to join investigations in a graft case wherein his reader, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Gurbinderjit Singh, was arrested while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹50,000 on Friday.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, assistant inspector general (AIG), vigilance, Ashish Kapoor, said the court has sent Gurbinderjit to two-day remand and the department is investigating the case.
Meanwhile, sources said the VB will also summon other officials who are linked to the case.
An official who is part of the investigation, on condition of anonymity, said, “We will also investigate the role of Malhi in this case to know if he was aware about the wrongdoing.”
THE CASE
ASI Gurbinderjit had reportedly promised to give a clean chit to three people—vikram Taneja, Pardeep Sachdeva, and his wife Neelam Sachdeva— who are accused in a cheating case that is being investigated by Malhi.
It has been alleged that they took ₹15 lakh from Maninder Singh, a resident of Faridkot, in the name of a cold store in November.
Pardeep later filed a complaint with the local police for reinvestigation as he said they were wrongly framed.
Gurbinderjit’s arrest was made in a trap by deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Tejinder Singh at the office of senior superintendent of police.
On Friday, vigilance bureau sources had said that the SP’S reader had struck a deal with Pardeep for ₹1.25 lakh, “and also told him about the share of money which goes to the SP”.
On Friday, he was accepting the “first instalment”.
Gurbinderjit has been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the vigilance police station in Mohali.
