‘Unauthorised’ building of BJP leader demolished in Jalandhar
JALANDHAR : Days after the Congress took charge of the municipal corporation (MC) here, the building branch department demolished an alleged illegal under-construction building of BJP leader Anil Sacchar.
The department has also sealed a restaurant of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former Zila Parishad member Iqbal Singh Dhindsa.
Minutes after the officials started demolishing the building with a JCB machine, Anil Sacchar and his supporters tried to stop the officials, but in vain. The demolishing team was accompanied by a police team.
When the former local bodies minister Manoranjan Kalia, whose house is just a few blocks away, reached the spot, but by that the team had left the site.
Interacting with mediapersons, Kalia accused the Congressled municipal corporation of targeting the buildings of oppositions leaders.
“Law should be equal for all. The MC should also take action against any illegal construction which is being carried out by the Congress leaders as well,” said Kalia. Meanwhile, Sacchar, showing the building plan to the press, accused Jalandhar central MLA Rajinder Beri of being behind the demolition.
“I have not violated any laws. The building was being constructed as per the building plan. I will not tolerate this. I am going to file a suit against the officials and expose all those who are carrying out illegal construction with the help of MLA Rajinder Beri,” said Sacchar.
Sacchar said that he received a notice of demolition only five days ago and sent a reply three days ago. Senior town planner (STP) Parampal Singh, however, said that the action was taken seeing the nature of the building that was constructed.
“The building plan was for a residential building, but it was being constructed as a commercial one. The owner had also exceeded the houseline by more than 10 feet,” said Parampal Singh.
