NRI arrested for ‘obscene’ behaviour with sister-in-law

NRI AMRIK SINGH HAD COME HOME AT AULAKH KALAN VILLAGE AFTER OF 17 YEARS

GURDASPUR : The Sri Hargobindp­ur police have arrested a nonresiden­t Indian (NRI), residing in the United States of America, for alleged obscene behaviour with his younger sister-in-law and insulting the religious dress code of her minor son.

Sri Hargobindp­ur SHO Kuldeep Singh said the NRI, identified as Amrik Singh, had come back home in Aulakh Kalan village in the district after 17 years.

Sukhwinder Kaur, wife of his younger brother Harkanwal Singh, complained to the police that her NRI brother-in-law Amrik Singh had been sexually harassing her since he returned from the US. She also alleged that the accused had also beaten her up and locked her in a room of the house.she alleged that her parental family members had freed her from the locked room.

The SHO said that a case under sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntaril­y causing hurt), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 295 (whoever destroys, defiles any place of worship, or any object held sacred by any class of persons with the intention of thereby insulting the religion of any class) has been registered against the accused.

The complainan­t also alleged that Amrik Singh insulted the religious dress code of her 17-year-old baptised son.she also accused him of forcibly making her another seven-year-old son drink liquor.

On the other hand, Amrik Singh said that a false case has been registered against him to grab his share in the joint property of the family.

Interestin­gly, Amrik Singh got married a month ago and both the families are living in the same house constructe­d on the joint property in the village.
