GURGAON: The four-month-old case of a 22-year-old woman’s attempted honour killing and her brother-in-law’s murder was solved when the police arrested three men, including the main accused, on Friday, police said on Sunday.

The case came to light on November 4 last year when Kuldeep, the woman’s husband and elder brother of the deceased, lodged a complaint with the Civil Lines police station, alleging the kidnapping of his brother Prem Singh. After investigating the case for nearly three months, the police on Friday arrested three accused allegedly involved in the attacks. The police arrested Karan Singh, Amit and Rajesh from Rajiv Chowk area after receiving a tip-off on their whereabouts. Karan Singh is the woman’s uncle and the main accused in the case, while the other two are his friends. During interrogation, the accused confessed that they had kidnapped Prem and strangled him to death. They added that they also burnt his body in the Aravalli forest near Tikili village. They also confessed to torturing Prem before murdering him to get information about his elder brother Kuldeep who had eloped with Karan Singh’s 22-year-old niece against the wishes of her family.

“Four to five days after burning Prem’s body, the accused returned to the spot to check on his remains. Seeing that the body was half-burnt, they set it ablaze a second time,” Raj Kumar, in-charge of Sector 38 crime unit of the Gurgaon police, said.

Karan Singh is uncle of the woman whom he shot at after getting information about her whereabouts from Prem. The woman has since been in a coma and is in a hospital, police said.

Karan Singh attacked the couple on November 5, a day after Kuldeep lodged a missing person’s complaint for Prem.

“The accused had fired on the woman and Kuldeep who were staying in Farrukhnagar after they eloped. The accused had kidnapped Prem because he knew where the couple were hiding. While Kuldeep escaped the shootout, the woman was injured and is in a coma,” Raj Kumar said.
