Karate player Kuldeep Kaur suicide case: SIT incharge changed

BATALA:A month after the suicide by international player Kuldeep Kaur on January 3, the head of the special investigation team (SIT), which was probing the incident, has been changed after the intervention of inspector general of police (IG), border range, Surinder Pal Singh Parmar.
Family members of Kuldeep Kaur were repeatedly demanding the change of SIT members, who were allegedly working under political pressure.
The IG has appointed an IPS officer and Sp(headquarter), Pathankot, Bhagirath Singh Meena, as the SIT chairperson.
Talking to HT, brother of the deceased, Satwant Singh, again demanded strict action against deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Rajinder Singh Bajwa and former SHO of Ghiana-kebanger police station, Paramjit Singh, who allegedly supported the accused, following which Kuldeep Kaur ended life.
He also urged home minister Rajnath Singh to take action against cabinet minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, who refused to support his sister and told her that he was not in a position to help her family because they ‘owed loyalty to Ravi Karan Kahlon, son of former speaker Nirmal Singh Kahlon’.
Former chairman of the tubewell corporation and Akali leader Ravi Karan Kahlon claimed that DSP Amandeep Kaur, who was earlier leading the SIT was a loyalist of Tript Rajinder Bajwa.“she is a daughter-inlaw of Batala block Congress president Balwinder Singh Bhullar. Moreover, her brother, Sarbarinder Pal Singh, is a former Congress sarpanch,” claimed Ravi Karan Kahlon.
“In the past 30 days, the SIT has done nothing in spite of building pressure on the deceased family members to make a compromise with the accused. It is surprising that even after the orders of IG, all seven accused, who belong to a single family are roaming free in the village,” he said.
Kuldeep committed suicide in protest against the ‘police inaction’ against the accused in a land case that her family had filed. After her death, the police had booked 14 persons under Section 306 of the IPC. The trio was arrested the same day while others are on the run.
