NEW DELHI: The Congress on Tuesday attacked the government over its alleged failure to fulfil electoral promises, with senior leader Jyotiraditya Scindia saying that the BJP will be ousted from power in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. participating in a debate in the Lok Sabha on the motion of thanks to the President’s address, the Guna MP said the government was neither willing to admit its mistakes nor listen to others. “People are living in fear, there is rising intolerance, foreign policy is in tatters, and the economy is in a shambles. Is this the idea of New India? But the government’s oft-repeated slogans are ‘All is well’ and ‘Acche din aa chuke hain (Good days have come)’,” he added. Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, for his part, alleged that the government’s policies were creating hardships for the people. He also attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Pakistan policy, and wondered how the government planned to prevent Indian soldiers from falling to enemy fire. “Where is the 56-inch chest now? You speak a lot abroad, but not in Parliament,” Kharge said.

Scindia also came down heavily on the government’s foreign policy, claiming that China was encircling India while the government was busy issuing confusing statements on Doklam. “Where are the people who used to talk about showing a red eye to China and getting ten heads for one as far as Pakistan is concerned?” he asked.

Scindia also demanded a white paper on the Rafale deal, and accused the government of doing nothing to strengthen the defence forces.
