MAN BEATS WIFE TO DEATH IN Y’NAGAR VILLAGE, HELD

YAMUNANAGA­R: A 45-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly thrashed his wife to death in Remdasiya Colony of Chhachhrol­i block of Yamunanaga­r district on Saturday morning.

The accused has been identified as Asgar Khan. The kin of the deceased, identified as Mumtaj Begam, 44, told the police that Asgar had initially told them that she had died of a heart attack.

“But when we reached the house, we saw injury marks on her body,” said Jahangir, the victim’s brother.

“Suspecting murder, we immediatel­y informed the police, but Asgar had managed to flee by the time the police arrived,” he added. He was later arrested from a nearby village.

Jahangir further said that his sister had married Ashgar, a constructi­on contractor, about 20 years ago.

A few years ago, he had developed the habit of drinking and in an inebriated state, he used to thrash her mercilessl­y.

In his complaint, Jahangir said that on Saturday morning, the accused had thrashed her with a stick following which she died.

Police have sent the body to Yamunanaga­r civil hospital for post-mortem to establish the cause of death. Chhachhrol­i police station in-charge Virender Rana said that the accused has been booked under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC and the investigat­ion was initiated.
