Will take legal action against officials victimising Akali workers, says Sukhbir
FEROZEPUR: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Sunday said the ruling Congress is not only committing atrocities against Akali workers, but is also set to impose electricity bills on tubewell motors.
Addressing a ‘Pol Khol’ rally at Guru Har Sahai in the district, he said those victimising Akalis would be proceeded against legally for following the dictates of Congressmen.
He also urged farmers not to allow power officials to install meters on grids as proposed by the government.
“Chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh has deceived the people by giving them signed affidavits promising complete loan waiver,” he added.
Sukhbir said finance minister Manpreet Badal was equally to be blamed because he had authored the party’s election manifesto, which promised to increase old age pension to Rs 2,500 per month and Shagun scheme to Rs 51,000.
“Rather than giving anything more, the Congress government has stopped all social welfare benefits, be it old age pension, Shagun scheme or scholarships to scheduled caste students,” he said.
SAD CHALLENGES JAKHAR, SIDHU ON GANGSTER ISSUE
Meanwhile, the SAD hit back at Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chief Sunil Jakhar and cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on the issue of gangsters.
Reacting to the statement by Jakhar and Sidhu that gangsters were propped up during the AKALI-BJP regime, SAD leader Balwinder Singh Bhunder also dared the government to order a probe by a sitting judge of Punjab and Haryana high court into the allegations levelled against Avtar Henry and his MLA son Avtar Singh for their alleged role in promoting gangsters.
“It is strange to see that families of gangster Vicky Gounder as well as Sukha Kahlwan have clearly stated that it was none other than Avtar Henry and his son and other Congress leaders who promoted them into illegal activities and goondaism,” he alleged.
He said that instead of ordering an inquiry into these allegations, the congress duo has tried to defame the Akali Dal on the issue.
Bhunder said if the government is serious about bringing the truth before the public, it should order inquiry into the allegations levelled against Congress leaders by a sitting high court judge.
