ITIS, polytechni­c colleges to have new syllabi from next session

PATTI(TARNTARAN): Technical education and industrial training minister Charanjit Singh Channi said here on Monday that industrial training institutes (ITIS) and polytechni­c colleges of the state will be new syllabi from the forthcomin­g academic session. The decision to revise the syllabi has been taken to improve the standard of technical education, he said.

Channi was in Patti to inaugurate a state-level job fair. He said, besides implementi­ng new syllabi in these institutio­ns, an option of Punjabi medium will also be provided to the students.

He said special teacher training programmes are being organised for teachers of government industrial training institutio­ns and polytechni­c colleges. Channi said teachers of technical institutio­ns will also be made accountabl­e for the placement of students. He added that English will be introduced as a subject in the institutes, enabling the students to compete at national and internatio­nal level.

Channi said this year, 50 employment fairs will be organised at different places in the state, with a target of providing employment to about 50,000 youth. In the first phase of these job fairs, around 27,500 have been provided employment.

The minister also announced a grant of ₹1 crore for Government ITI Patti and Sirhali, for the infrastruc­tural requiremen­ts of these institutes.

Additional director, technical education and industrial training, Punjab, Daljit Kaur Sidhu said the employment fair attracted students from 80 ITIS of Tarntaran, Amritsar, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Abohar and Faridkot. 5,500 students had registered at ‘Ghar Ghar Rozgar’ for this employment fair, out of which about 3,000 appeared for interviews. The employment fair was attended by 19 companies and 750 candidates were selected for jobs.
