NEWDELHI: A 35-year-old man who worked as a cook in south Delhi’s Greater Kailash area was stabbed to death after a late-night chase on foot in Alaknanda on Sunday, police said.

The crime took place around 10 pm outside Yamuna Apartments when the victim, Dashrath Mukhiya, was walking back home after work.

Police said that a CCTV camera installed near Godawari Apartments recorded two attackers chasing Mukhiya along a footpath, though the stabbing was not captured in the camera because of poor lighting in the area.

Two people were taken into custody on Monday evening for questioning but no arrests were made till late night, police said.

“In the footage, Mukhiya is seen running and falling on the footpath. He is then seen getting up, running, and finally falling in front of a security guard outside Godawari Apartments. The camera has recorded the attackers fleeing after Mukhiya falls on the road,” said a police officer associated with the investigation.

The investigators suspect that he may have been murdered over personal enmity because his cell phone was found intact and ~450 were found on his person.

Praveer Ranjan, special commissioner of police (southern range), said that Mukhiya told the apartment security guard that he was stabbed by two men before falling unconscious.
