KARNAL : : Farmers on Monday started an indefinite dharna outside the residence of BJP’S Radaur MLA Shyam Singh Rana against impounding of 40 tractor-trailers and registration of FIR against about 150 people for blocking road on February 23.

Protesting under the banner of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU), the farmers said the protest will continue till the police withdraw cases against their fellow farmers and return their tractor-trailers without any paper work.

“The government should withdraw the cases against farmers who were protesting peacefully and return their tractor-trailers without any condition,” BKU state president Gurnam Singh Chaduni said.

He also accused the BJP government in the state of misusing the police to suppress the voice of farmers who wanted to join a protest for their demands in Delhi on February 23.

“Farmers were cane-charged by the police who registered cases against them. This is injustice with the farming community and the BJP will have to pay for it,” he said.

The Yamunanagar police had registered an FIR against 150 farmers under Sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code and 35 of them were arrested.
