School principal held for ‘raping’ Class-10 student

ROHTAK : A school principal in Sonepat has been arrested for allegedly raping a Class-10 student on the pretext of helping her clear board exams, police said.

The alleged incident occurred on March 13 at a private school in Bichpari village of Gohana tehsil. Accused Manjeet Lathar is also the owner of the school.

The father of the 16-year-old victim told the police that he was worried about his daughter’s academic performanc­e and had admitted her to Lathar’s school after paying Rs 10,000 on recommenda­tion of a friend.

He said Lathar had assured him to help his daughter clear the exams.

On Tuesday, Lathar allegedly asked the victim’s father to drop her to a woman’s house nearby school while he made a proxy candidate sit for victim’s physical education exam at the centre.

The father was asked to pick up his daughter from the woman’s house once exam is over.

However, when he came to pick her up, the 16-year-old revealed that Lathar had come to the house in afternoon and raped her.

The father reached the police station and lodged a complaint, following which Lathar was booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.

The police also booked two women, at whose house the alleged rape took place, on charges of criminal conspiracy.

Gohana sadar station house officer (SHO) Sethi Malik said all accused were arrested on Thursday.

The SHO said the police were interrogat­ing all the accused to get further details about the incident.
