Cops must prepare for tech challenges: HP CM
Jai Ram Thakur tells police to devise strategies to restrict the rising drug proliferation in state
SHIMLA : “As criminals are going hi-tech with internet revolution and social media, our police will also have to prepare in advance to convert future challenges into opportunities,” said Himachal chief minister Jai Ram Thakur, while inaugurating the 46th All India Police Science Congress here on Thursday.
The CM also expressed his concern over the drug menace and asked police to devise strategies to restrict the rising drug proliferation.
Addressing the delegates, bureau of police research and development (BPRD) director general AP Maheshwari said police have already planned to rope in experts from various fields who can help them in improving service delivery.
The BPRD, besides taking states on board for training-need analysis, has also suggested to engage scholars from IITS, IIMS and other top law colleges.
“A lot needs to be done in the field of policing, not only in terms of practices but also in technology,” Maheshwari said.
As per the BPRD’S plan, an internship programme will be designed for IIMS, IITS and law college scholars at police institutions, including police stations.
“While the ground-level staff will get familiar with the modern technology, the scholars will also get a fair idea about the real issues in policing,” he added.
The bureau has also been working to develop a platform for citizens to gather their suggestions and feedbacks.
DEBATE ON EMERGING CHALLENGES
Over 100 delegates, during the congress, have been deliberating upon social media and law enforcement, management of investigative case load, information security and crypto currency and its challenges.
Meanwhile, CM Jai Ram, while about Kotkhai rape and murder case, said, “We are still awaiting justice for Gudiya. We never thought that such an incident would ever take place.”
