Left outfit flays govt for ‘anti-people’ policies
RURAL LABOURS ARE NOT GETTING WORK FOR OVER TWO MONTHS DUE TO THE POOR POLICIES OF THE GOVERNMENT, SAYS RMPI LEADER GURNAM SINGH DAUD
AMRITSAR: Hundreds of farmers, labourers and women, under the banner of Revolutionary Marxist Party of India (RMPI), staged a dharna outside the deputy commissioner office, here on Tuesday. They accused the state and central governments of making ‘polarising’ and ‘antipeople’ policies.
The protesters, carrying red flags and placards, raised slogans against the governments. Senior RMPI leader Mangat Ram Pasla said that the central government is making anti-people policies and polarising people on communal lines.
He alleged that in connivance with the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh) and some miscreants, communists were beaten up, their houses were burnt, and statues of Lenin were vandalised, to spread hatred in the country. Pasla criticised the budget presented by the Punjab government and termed it as anti-farmer, anti-women and anti-poor.
RMPI leader Gurnam Singh Daud said that the Captain government has failed to fulfil its poll promises. He said that rural labours are not getting work for over two months due to the poor policies of the government.
He demanded guarantee of employment for a year for them, 10-marla plots for the homeless, and a grant of ₹5 lakh for construction of houses on these plots. Farmer leader Dr Satnam Singh Ajnala and RMPI leader Rattan Singh Randhawa demanded waiver of all loans of farmers, who are owners of up to 10-acre land, to prevent farmer suicides. They demanded implementation of Dr Swaminathan Commission’s report as well.
Demands of ₹18,000 per month for unskilled labourers, instructions to Border Security Force (BSF) officers to not harass border farmers, ₹10,000 per acre compensation to border farmers, ₹2,500 per month pension for the elderly, widows, and physically handicapped, were also made.
