Man booked for raping Dalit girl in Amritsar

AMRITSAR : The rural police of the district on Sunday booked a man for allegedly raping a 25-year-old Dalit girl and making casteist remarks against her in Majitha, 20 km from here.
The accused has been identified as Ramakant Nanda aka Vicky, 28, of ward number 6 in Majitha.
The victim filed her complaint against the accused to the Majitha police on April 3, which was investigated by the deputy superintendent of police (DSP) of Majitha on the direction of the senior superintendent of police (SSP), rural, Parampal Singh.
In her complaint, the victim stated that the accused had been in physical relations with her on the pretext of marrying her for the past seven years. She has also him of making castiest remarks against her.
Sub-inspector (SI) Mehar Singh of the Majitha police station said after investigating the matter, they have booked the accused under sections 376 (punishment for rape), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under the Scheduled Castes/scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989.
He said the accused has been absconding and efforts are on to nab him.
