2 jawans killed in ceasefire violation by Pak along LOC

JAMMU: Two soldiers were killed as Pakistani army violated ceasefire in Sunderbani sector along the Line of Control (LOC) on Monday evening. “Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked and indiscrimi­nate firing of small arms, automatics and mortars from 1715 hours (5.15 PM) in Sunderbani sector along the Line of Control (LOC).

JAMMU: At least two Indian soldiers died in heavy shelling by the Pakistani army along the Line of Control (LOC) in Keri and Sunderbani areas of Jammu and Rajouri districts on Monday evening.

“Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked and indiscrimi­nate firing of small arms, automatics and mortars from 5.15 PM in Sunderbani sector along the Line of Control (LOC). Indian Army retaliated strongly and effectivel­y,” said Defence spokesman Lt Col Devender Anand.

Col Anand further said, “However, in the exchange of fire, rifleman Vinod Singh and rifleman Jaki Sharma were grievously injured and succumbed to their injuries.”

24-year-old Vinod Singh, belonged to Danapur village, in Jourian of Akhnoor in Jammu district and is survived by his father Ajit Singh. 30-year-old rifleman Jaki Sharma, belonged to Sanhail villgae, in Hiranagar tehsil of Kathua district and is survived by his wife, Rajni Devi.

Meanwhile, Army on Tuesday paid tribute to the two soldiers on Tuesday. A wreath-laying ceremony was organised in their honour. GOC Crossed Swords division among other military dignitarie­s laid the wreaths. Later, Vinod Singh was cremated with full military honours in his native Danapur village in Jourian, Akhnoor. Hundreds participat­ed during the last rites of rifleman Jaki Sharma in his native Sanhail village in Hiranagar tehsil.
