CHANDIGARH: Leader of Opposition in Haryana assembly Abhay Chautala on Tuesday said he has sent a written communication to Haryana assembly speaker seeking action against chief minister ML Khattar for committing contempt of the House by backing off from fulfilling the solemn assurance to the House that a CBI probe would be ordered in Uddar Gagan matter.

Replying to a question at a press conference on Tuesday, Chautala said the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) would press for a privilege motion against the chief minister in the next assembly session, if the Speaker did not act.

“It is now obvious that the chief minister had absolutely no intention of implementing his assurance given to the House. This is utter contempt of the House and its members and deserves strong response from the Speaker who is the guardian of rights, privileges and dignity of the House,’’ the communication said.

Chautala said that appointment of Justice (retd) RS Madan to inquire the matter was inappropriate. “He remained posted a legal remembrancer (LR) during the Congress rule. We would request him to excuse himself from this inquiry in the interest of propriety,’’ Chautala said.

Chautala also demanded the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) be dissolved immediately and an investigation into the cash-for-jobs scam be handed over to the CBI. He pointed out that after the arrest of eight HSSC employees, the contention of the police seeking remand of the accused clearly indicated the complicity of at least one member of the commission. “It’s apparent that cash-for-jobs scam has a very wide network in which many high-ups, employees and members of the commission were involved.”
