Motorcycle, car collide, go up in flames in Gurugram
GURUGRAM: A car and a motorcycle were gutted at the Shankar Chowk flyover after a collision on Friday afternoon.
According to the police, the biker is critical while the car driver fled the spot and an investigation is under way to trace him. According to fire department officials, around 2.30pm, both the vehicles were heading towards New Delhi when the car hit the motorcycle from behind at high speed.
They added that such was the impact of the accident that the biker lost balance and fell off his two-wheeler as it skidded for a few metres.
The motorcycle was stuck underneath the front tyre of the car, as the driver fled the scene.
As a result of the accident, petrol started leaking from the motorcycle and soon it was engulfed in flames. Subsequently, the Maruti Suzuki Eeco, too, caught fire.
Police said the biker was identified as 41-year-old Ram Bahadur, a resident of Lucknow.
“Bystanders took the injured motorcyclist to the Civil Hospital and he was then referred to Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi. His condition is said to be critical. We are in the process of tracing the accused,” inspector Vikas, SHO, Sector 17-18 police station, said.
The incident led to a snarl on the Delhi-gurgaon Expressway for nearly an hour and, as per fire department officials, they reached the spot within ten minutes after getting word of the incident.
“On receiving information, a fire tender was sent to the spot from Udyog Vihar fire brigade and it took the firemen 20-25 minutes to douse the flames,” Charanjeet Singh, fire station officer, Udyog Vihar fire brigade, said.
Traffic police reached the spot and started clearing traffic, as the fire had caused congestion on the carriageway leading to the slowing down of traffic towards New Delhi.
