ROHTAK:A 14-year-old student was hospitalised after a chemical fell on him while he was allegedly sweeping the science lab at his school at Kaliyani village in Charkhi Dadri district on directions of his teachers.

The victim was identified as Babit Kumar, a Class 9 student at Government Senior Secondary School, Kaliyani village.

He was admitted to Dadri civil hospital, but doctors later referred him to a “better facility” in Bhiwani. Kumar’s family alleged that the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when Babit and his classmates were asked to sweep science lab by their teachers. While cleaning, a bottle containing acid fell on Babit which spilled all over his body. “As it started burning, my friends took me to the staff room. My teacher asked me to wash affected body parts with water and not tell about the incident to anyone. Then the teacher asked my friends to take me home,” said Babit, who was admitted with injuries on his face, arms, chest and stomach. Babit’s father Sanjay Kumar said he noticed that his son was in pain and rushed him to the hospital. “I sent my father to school to enquire as to what had happened to my son. Teachers said they weren’t aware,” Sanjay said.

He added that there was complete negligence on part of the school. “They were making students clean floor and not even bothering to provide medical assistance.” The family claimed they had filed a police complaint against the school administration.

Dadri DC Ajay Tomar admitted to negligence and said he had ordered a probe. “Fortunately, the student is fine now. An inquiry has been initiated and action will be taken against those found guilty,” he added.
