AMRITSAR:A day after HT reported that the state’s meritorious schools were plagued by staff shortages and staff crunch, school education minister Om Parkash Soni, on Monday, inspected one of such schools. He ordered the district education officers to immediately adjust two Maths teachers to this school. Against four posts, only one teacher is posted.

DEO (secondary education) Sunita Kiran and DEO (education) Shishupal Kaushal and other senior education department officials accompanied the minister. Soni visited the classrooms and talked to students.

The issues that were raised before him were non-functioning water coolers, shortage of mathematics teachers and issues related to extra coaching classes. The minister also went to mess and inspected the food. “I have instructed the mess staff to improve quality of food,” he told reporters later, while also referring to the HT report. The ‘Society For Promotion of Quality Education for Poor and Meritorious Students’ that the chief minister heads manages these schools.

‘SET RIGHT CHANNEL OF COMMUNICATION’

Finding that principals of these schools raised their issues with the society, rather than DEOS, the minister ordered principals to coordinate with the officers as well for faster resolution of complaints.
