ROHTAK : Five people, including three children, were killed and 14 others were injured when a school bus collided with a truck in Charkhi Dadri district on Monday afternoon.

The incident occurred near Morwala village when a school bus of BSVN Senior Secondary School, Bigowa, left the school to drop the children home. After taking a turn, the bus collided head on with a speeding truck. The collision was so fierce that the front of the bus got completely shattered.

Locals immediately gathered at the spot and rushed the victims to a hospital in Dadri where two children and the bus conductor were pronounced dead on arrival. They have been identified as Rishabh Kumar, 6, a Class 2 student and Nitesh Kumar, 15, a Class 11 student and bus conductor Pappu.

The police said at least 10 children and the bus driver, who suffered critical injuries, were referred to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak, where a three-year-old girl and the driver succumbed to their injuries.

Meanwhile, the incident caused panic at the civil hospital in Dadri that was allegedly not

equipped to give treatment to so many patients at once.

The police said the driver of the truck managed to flee the spot abandoning his vehicle. He has been booked under Sections 279 (rash driving), 304 A (causing death by negligence), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering lives) and 427 (mischief causing damage) of the Indian Penal Code.

The accident has once again raised questions regarding security of school children in their buses. Recently, around 40 kids lost their lives in two accidents involving school buses in Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

Local MLA Sukhvinder Singh assured help for the families of those killed and injured. He also appreciated the role of local media persons who prioritised helping children reach hospitals than covering news about the accident.
