NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education on Monday announced the results for the Joint Entrance Examinations –Mains (Jee-mains) for admission to engineering colleges across the country with 2,31,024 students qualifying to take the Jee-advanced exams.

Delhi student Simarpreet Singh Saluja achieved the all India 9th rank with a score of 345 out of 360.

Saluja, a student of Delhi Public School, RK Puram, plans to pursue B.tech in Computer Science.

Bhogi Suraj Krishna from Andhra Pradesh has topped the Jee-mains.

The second rank was bagged by Hemant Kumar Chodipilli from Andhra Pradesh, while the third rank was secured by Rajasthan’s Parth Laturia.

Saluja said, “My next focus is to score well in the Jee-advanced exam. I used to study for at least four hours after school on a weekday and on weekends I would study at my coaching centre. I would also take breaks by going on a walk and listening to music.”

Son of a bank official father and government employee mother, Saluja has been training to become an engineer since Class 6.

“But I actually became serious only when I completed class 10. Before that I was taking foundation classes,” he said.

The results for Joint Entrance Examinations –Mains (Jee-mains) are used for admissions to National Institute of Technology (NITS), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITS), Centrally-funded Technical Institute (CFTI), Selffinanced Institutes (SFIS), and other institutes.

“I was confident of my performance when the answer keys were out, but had not expected to bag the top rank,” the topper, Krishna, told Press Trust of India (PTI), adding that he wants to join IIT Bombay.

The students who have qualified the Jee-mains can take the Jee-advanced results of which are used for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITS).

A total of 10.74 lakh candidates appeared for the exam. A total of 1,80, 331 boys and 50,693 girls cleared the exam.

The exam was conducted at 1,621 centres (1,613 in India and 8 abroad) across 112 cities (104 in India and 8 abroad).

The registration process for JEE Advanced 2018 would start from May 2 and the examination is scheduled to be conducted on May 20 in a fully computer based test mode.

This year, the CBSE board is not giving any weight to class 12 board exam marks but will rank qualifying students on the basis of their Joint Entrance Examinations –Mains (Jee-mains) 2018 score.

However, candidates have to show the Class 12th marksheet with 75% marks at the reporting centres at the time of counselling/admission.
