Buddha Purnima was celebrated all over the world on Monday, and the message that went across was that the Buddha’s light must shine all over this tension-ridden globe. The Buddha’s Middle Path seems to be the solution to today’s conflicts that have dogged many parts of the world.

The best tribute one can pay him would be to follow his path. Let us recall and remind ourselves of his words on mind control: “A man’s mind may make him a Buddha or it may make him a beast. Misled, one becomes a demon; enlightened, one becomes a Buddha.”

We need to understand the importance of controlling our mind to tread the path that leads to Buddhahood. And it is within your capacity to avoid the extremities and follow the Buddha’s Middle Path that assures you of sure success in your endeavours, particularly in fulfilling your mission of life’s journey to be joyous and purposeful.

Buddha had told his disciples he would die one day but his Dharma would remain forever. Similarly, Buddhahood will remain alive as a noble aspiration for everybody to achieve so that the cycle of life comes to an end, resulting in liberation and permanent bliss.

Let us remind ourselves it is not that difficult to attain liberation provided one sets one’s direction of life in a way that never compromises with one’s conscience and the virtuous path.
