Cong infighting to the fore over suspension of Muktsar councillors
MUKTSAR: A day after the local bodies department stayed the suspension order of four councillors with the nagar council, Yadwinder Singh ‘Yadu’, Kiranpal Kaur (daughter-in-law of former MLA Sukhdarshan Singh Mrar), Surjit Kaur and Sukhdev Singh, Yadu has alleged that Gidderbaha Congress MLA Amrinder Singh Raja Warring was behind the suspensions.
The suspensions were for abstention from three consecutive House meetings.
Addressing a press conference, Yadu added, “Gidderbaha MLA, Amridner Singh Raja Warring, was behind our suspensions. He has tried to favor SAD leaders.”
Former Muktsar MLA Karan Kaur Brar said, “I have narrated the whole story to Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Captain Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu. Raja Warring is transgressing the discipline of the party.”
She added, “He can’t handle his own constituency and is trying to interfere in Muktsar, which is my constituency.” Last month, acting on a complaint from Muktsar Nagar council president, Harpal Singh Bedi, the local bodies department had suspended the four councillors.
In June 2017, Congress councillor Yadu, along with others, had passed a resolution to oust nagar council president Bedi. This failed to get the requisite support in the House, leading to factionalism between the Congress leaders.
When contacted, Warring said, “I deny all the allegations. I was not even aware of suspensions and do not indulge in such kind of politics.”
