Shahzar Rizvi claims No 1 spot in 10m air pistol world ranking
NEWDELHI: Shooter Shahzar Rizvi on Tuesday grabbed the No 1 spot in world rankings, riding on his silver medal-winning performance in the World Cup in Changwon. With 1654 rating points, Rizvi shot to the top spot ahead of Russia’s Artem Chernousov (1046). The other pistol shooter in the top-10 is Jitu Rai, placed sixth.
Rizvi had earlier won gold with a world record score at the World Cup in Guadalajara in March.
Among women, Manu Bhaker, who won gold at the Commonwealth Games, was the only Indian in the top-10 of the air pistol rankings at fourth spot.
STRONG BOXING TEAM
NEW DELHI: India will field 16 boxers at the AIBA Youth World Championships in August, where they will get another shot at qualification for the Youth Olympics in October. A total of 10 women and six men have made the cut for the championships in Hungary, the Boxing Federation of India said in a statement.
The challenge in women’s section will be spearheaded by world champions Nitu (48 kg) and Sakshi (57kg) and national champion Jony (60kg). Accompanying them will be world bronze-medallist Neha Yadav (+81 kg), Manisha (64 kg) and Lalita (69 kg) along with Anamika (51kg), Astha Pahwa (75kg) and Sakshi Gaidhani (81kg) and bronze medal winner Divya Pawar (54kg).
The championship will be the last opportunity to qualify for the Youth Olympics.
