Dust storm, rain hit life, 2 die in Patiala
CHANDIGARH/PATIALA: Normal life was affected as a high-velocity dust storm hit various parts of Punjab, especially Mohali, Zirakpur, Patiala, Ludhiana and Muktsar, on Wednesday afternoon. Two men were killed in Patiala’s Rishi Colony after a newly constructed wall fell on them due to high-velocity winds (45 kmph speed).
CHANDIGARH/PATIALA : Normal life was affected as a high-velocity dust storm hit various parts of Punjab, especially Mohali, Zirakpur, Patiala, Ludhiana and Muktsar, on Wednesday afternoon.
Two men were killed in Patiala’s Rishi Colony after a newly constructed wall fell on them due to high-velocity winds (45 kmph speed).
The incident took place when Harminder Singh Chadha (62) and an unidentified labourer took shelter beside the wall in the former’s residential plot.
The two died on the spot, police said. At least three persons were also injured in the city due to high-speed winds, reports said.
People had to drive their vehicles with headlights on as visibility level reduced considerably.
Rain also lashed many places after the dust storm.
There were reports of trees being uprooted on several roads in the region while power supply was also hit.
In some places the power outage extended to several hours.
In the neighbouring state of Haryana, cities like Panchkula, Karnal, Mahendergarh and Ambala were also were hit by the dust storm.
The meteorological department said the maximum temperature dropped at many places in the region after the dust storm and rain.
Ludhiana (34.7 degrees Celsius), Amritsar (34.1 degrees Celsius) and Patiala (34.6 degrees Celsius)recorded below normal temperatures.
