Man stabbed to death in Kathua, 3 arrested

VICTIM WAS STABBED WHEN HE HAD TRIED TO INTERVENE IN A SCUFFLE BETWEEN ONE OF THE ACCUSED AND ANOTHER MAN, ACCUSED HAD FLED IN A MARUTI DZIRE

JAMMU: A 23-year-old youth was stabbed to death by car-borne miscreants in Billawar area of Kathua district on Tuesday. The Kathua police had arrested two prime accused on late Tuesday night, while their aide was held on Wednesday. As a precaution­ary measure to check rumour mongers, the district administra­tion also suspended mobile internet services in the district.

The deceased has been identified as Liaqat Ali of Dher Phinter in Billawar. The two prime accused are Abhishek Sharma of Nowshera Mahanpur and Honey Khajuria of Dher Phinter, while their aide is Pankaj Sharma of Dher Phinter. Honey, posted as a medical assistant at Nashedi near Billawar, is Abhishek’s brother-in-law.

Kathua SSP Shridhar Patil said, “There was a scuffle, prima facie over love affair or money, between Abhishek and Abid Hussain, both students of a private paramedica­l college in Kathua. When Liaqat intervened, he was stabbed by the attackers who fled in a Maruti Swift Dzire car. He was rushed to the government medical college and hospital, but was declared dead on arrival by the doctors.” A police officer from Billawar said Abhishek had sought help from Honey to settle a score with Abid. The police have also procured the CCTV footage from outside a shop where the incident took place. The Billawar police have lodged a case under the RPC. The car used in the crime has also been seized.
