LUDHIANA AGAIN, CITY BOY IS PSEB CLASS 10 TOPPER

CHANDIGARH: Nearly every second boy who appeared for the Class 10 examinatio­n, conducted by the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) this year, flunked the exam, while the girls fared much better with 69.13% of them clearing it.

According to the results declared on Tuesday, the overall pass percentage of the class 10 exam was recorded at 59.47.

A total of 3,68,295 students had appeared for the class 10 exams this year, a PSEB spokespers­on said. Gurpreet Singh of Harkrishan Sahib Public Senior secondary School, Ludhiana, topped the exam with 98% marks, while the second position was bagged by Jasmeen Kaur of Shishu Model High School in Kapurthala with 97.85% marks.

Puneet Kaur, a student of Guru Nanak Public Senior Secondary School in Fatehgarh Sahib, secured third spot.

Government schools fared poorly as the pass percentage in these schools was recorded at 57.85. Of 1,88,175 students of these schools, 1,08,855 students managed to clear the exam.

MOHALI:OVER 59% students passed the Class-10 examinatio­n of the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB), with Gurpreet Singh of Sri Hari Krishan Public Senior Secondary School, Daba Road, in Ludhiana emerging the state topper by securing 98% marks.

The exam result was declared on Tuesday. Jasmeen Kaur of Shishu Model High School, Bhulath, in Kapurthala secured the second spot with 97.85% marks, while Puneet Kaur from Fatehgarh Sahib bagged the third position with 97.69% marks. In the sports category, Shriya of Bal Vidya Mandir High School, Nangal Kotli Mandi, in Gurdaspur topped the state with 98.62% marks. While girls outshone boys in terms of overall pass percentage, government and aided schools continue to fare badly across the state.

The pass %this year is at 59.47, higher than the last year’s 57.50. Of a total of 3,68,295 students, including 3.36 lakh regular and 31,756 open candidates, appeared in the examinatio­n of which, 2, 19, 034 (2.08 lakh regular) passed it.

Of a total of 1.56 lakh girls (1.48 lakh regular), 69.13% passed the exam. The boys’ pass percentage is 52.31 as 1.10 lakh of a total of 2.11 lakh (including 1.87 lakh regular) got through. The pass % of students in urban areas is 63.85 while in rural areas it is 61.22. The pass % of government schools is 58.14. Mansa topped Punjab with 73.76% students from the district having passed the exam, followed by Muktsar (72.39%), Bathinda (70.12%), Ludhiana (67.27%) and Hoshiarpur (67.14%). Ludhiana, has maximum number of students in the merit list. Of nearly 400 students in the list, Ludhiana has 94, followed by Patiala (42), Hoshiarpur (32) and Sangrur (31).
