AMRITSAR: It was about seven months ago that 32-year-old Sukhpreet Kaur Brar, assistant professor in the Hindi department of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) here, had disappeared mysteriously, but the district police have so far failed to get any clue about her and the case is almost at the verge of closure.

As per the police, a case closes if police fail to make any headway into it for a year.the professor went missing on September 11, 2017 and was alleged to have been kidnapped by Jazzinder Singh, alias Garry, 30, of Kharar, Mohali, from a restaurant outside the university. The hope of her family and the police to find the professor was shattered after her alleged kidnapper Garry committed suicide in a guest house in Goa on September 21.

Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) Lakhbir Singh said investigation into the case is going on, but it seems they are groping in dark.

“We have been making all efforts to trace the professor, but in vain. The case file will be closed after it completes a year because there has been no headway into it,” he said. Lakhbir said he has also asked the police under whose jurisdiction the Amritsar-chandigarh-delhi highway area falls to inform him if they had found any woman’s body, but so far he has not received any report in this regard.

Police had earlier procured the CCTV footage of the accused crossing the Delhi-jaipur toll plaza in which front seats of the car were captured and the accused was seen driving alone.

It has also been learnt that the police have not received the forensic report of the car, used by Garry to take away Sukhpreet, to get some clues about Sukhpreet. The car was found abandoned after he committed suicide. The car was sent to the Kharar laboratory around three months ago for a forensic probe. The ADCP said some blood stains were found in the car, which turned out to be of Garry not of Sukhpreet. That is why they have not received the report, he added.

Sukhpreet Kaur went missing on September 11, 2017 but the incident came to light four days later after her father approached the GNDU authorities when he received a ransom message from her alleged kidnapper.
