CHASING RECORDS

-

Here’s a look at the new landmarks Manchester City have already set this season in the Premier League and the ones they are very close to achieving: BIGGEST TITLE MARGIN City have a 17-point lead over Manchester United with two matches in hand and if the latter drop points in their last two games, Pep Guardiola’s men will overhaul United’s record set in 1999-2000 when they won the title by 18 points from Arsenal.

EARLIEST TITLE

United’s shock home defeat to West Brom practically handed the title to City with five games to spare. It equalled the record held by United’s 2000-01 team.

MOST POINTS

Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea garnered 95 points in 2004-05, which was the most in a season. City have 94 points from 36 matches so far and need two more to breach that record.

MOST GOALS

City have scored 102 goals this campaign and need just one more to equal the highest set by Chelsea when they scored 103 goals in the 2009-10 season.

MOST WINS

Having won 30 of 36 games this season, City have to win one of their remaining two games to set a new record. Antonio Conte’s Chelsea had set the record only in the last season.

MOST SUCCESSIVE WINS

Arsenal (2001-02) and Chelsea (2016-17) held the record with 13 straight victories but City moved passed that mark with their win at Old Trafford on December 10 before extending the record to 18 matches.
