A 50-year-old woman was killed during a pre-wedding function at Jand village, 45 km from Tarn Taran, on Friday night after she tried to stop a fight between her son and six others over an argument with the DJ .

AMRITSAR: A 50-year-old woman was killed during a pre-wedding function at Jand village, 45 km from Tarn Taran, on Friday night after she tried to stop a fight between her son and six others over an argument with the DJ regarding a request to play songs of their choice.

The deceased, identified as Charan Kaur of Khemkaran village, was the paternal aunt of groom Ranjit Singh, who was scheduled to get married on Saturday. In his complaint to Patti Sadar police, son of the deceased, Sukhdev Singh said that when they were attending the function, a scuffle broke out between him and six others — Lakhwinder Singh aka Lakha, Arwinder Singh, Sukha Singh, Mann Singh, Palwinder Singh and Jagga Singh of Valtoha village. “They were drunk during the party. When I requested the DJ to play a song, they intervened and threatened him to not play my request. This led to a minor quarrel,” said Sukhdev.

He said that as his mother got to know about the argument, she intervened.

“Lakhwinder took a mace and hit her on head with it, following which she fainted. We rushed her to Patti civil hospital where she was declared brought dead,” he claimed.asi Sukhchain Singh said a murder case has been registered.
