₹10L, gold jewellery stolen from two houses in Tarn Taran

TARN TARAN: Some unidentifi­ed thieves decamped after stealing ₹10 lakh cash and gold worth ₹4.2 lakh from two houses in Bur Chand and Bhaini Gurmukh Singh villages, in Bhikhiwind subdivisio­n, during the intervenin­g night of Tuesday and Wednesday. Kashmir Singh, 65, of Bur Chand village said he along with his family was sleeping in the courtyard of his house. “Around 4:30 am on Wednesday, I woke up and entered one of the rooms of the house to find two almirahs in the room broke open,” he said.

Kashmir said when his family checked the almirahs, they found ₹2.78 lakh cash and gold ornaments of nine tolas (three bracelets, six rings, a chain) missing from it. He said the amount of gold is pegged at ₹2.27 lakh.

The second incident occurred in Bhaini Gurmukh Singh, which is around 2-km from Bur Chand village. Jaspal said after having dinner, he and his family slept in the courtyard of their house on Tuesday night. “While we were asleep, some thieves entered our house by breaking the window pane of one of the rooms and took away ₹7 lakh and five tola gold worth ₹1.5 lakh (a bracelet, four rings, a pair of earrings) from the almirah,” he said and added they came to know about the incident on Wednesday morning. Sub-inspector (SI) of Kacha Pakka police post, Rajinder Singh, along with othersreac­hed the spots and began the probe. Cases have been registered.
