SRINAGAR : The other local man Sameer Ahmad of Beerwah Budgam detained along with Major Leetul Gogoi from a city hotel on Wednesday was also identified to be an army man working with the Rashtriya Rifles unit in Central Kashmir’s Budgam.

Police said Sameer Ahmad is an army personnel working with the Rashtriya Rifles unit based in Budgam. However, it is not clear, whether Ahmad is working with the unit of Major Gogoi or any other army unit.

According to staff members Sameer had brought Gogoi and the woman in a black Alto car to hotel.

After an altercation with the hotel staffers, Gogoi, Sameer and the woman were taken to Khanyar police station.

While Army Major was handed over to his unit, based in Budgam, the two locals were also let off. North superintendent of police Sajjad Ahmad Shah said all three persons were released.

“So far no case has been registered. I am going to investigate the case,’’ he said. Inspector general of police SP Pani had asked Shah to conduct inquiry in the case within the ambit of law.

‘WOMAN’S DOCUMENTS SHOW SHE IS A MAJOR’

NEWDELHI : The initial documents presented to the police by the woman in the row involving army officer Leetul Gogoi, and a Kashmir hotel, revealed that she was not a minor and that she had come to meet the army officer of her own volition, said a senior police officer, who asked not to be identified.

In her statement to the police, the woman said she had gotten in touch with Gogoi over Facebook.

The woman’s Aadhar card, which was given to the police, shows that she was born in November 1999.

The senior police officer added that “the probe is still on and no conclusion has been reached so far’’.

“So far there is no legal case here, but tomorrow the girl and her family can turn around and say something,’’ said the police officer.

Meanwhile, it has been learnt that the woman’s family left the village as soon as she was handed over to village sarpanch late on Wednesday.
