Decision on Lal Singh’s brother bail plea today

RAJINDER SINGH, BROTHER OF FORMER MINISTER LAL SINGH, WAS BOOKED FOR USING DEROGATORY LANGUAGE AGAINST CM IN A RALLY

JAMMU : The district court has reserved the decision for granting bail to Rajinder Singh, brother of former minister Lal Singh for using derogatory language against chief minister Mehbooba Mufti during a rally in Kathua district few days back.

Singh has been evading arrest since May 21 after police registered an FIR against him (Singh), after a video showing Rajinder Singh using derogatory language against the chief minister went viral.

Soon after, Kathua chief judicial magistrate (CJM) issued an arrest warrant against Rajinder Singh alias Babby on Tuesday, Singh, through his lawyer, applied for the bail.

Meanwhile, after hearing the lawyers representi­ng Singh and the public prosecutor on Wednesday, the judge in Kathua sessions court has reserved the decision for Thursday. It appears the judge will announce the fate of bail plea tomorrow.

CJM, while issuing warrant on Tuesday, authorised SHO police station Hiranagar to execute said warrant and as consequenc­e of same apprehend/ arrest accused in connection with aforesaid FIR wherever found.

Kathua police on Sunday issued a lookout notice for Singh who has been evading arrest.

Singh used derogatory language against chief minister in Dogra Swabhiman to press for a CBI inquiry into rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Kathua.

He was booked under Section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Ranbir Penal Code and Sections 66/67 of the Informatio­n Technology Act.
