Four members of Davinder Bambiha gang held in Moga

MOGA: Police on Friday arrested four members belonging to slain gangster Davinder Bambiha’s group and recovered three pistols, 16 cartridges and 1,300 gram contraband from them.

The accused have been identified as Jaspreet Singh, Ajay Kumar, Rakesh Kumar and Amritpal Singh.

While Jaspreet and Ajay are from Faridkot and are facing various cases, including that of murder, Rakesh and Amritpal are from Bathinda.

A police team led by crime investigat­ion agency (CIA) inspector Kikkar Singh Bhullar laid a trap at Budh Singh Waala after a receiving a tip-off that the gangsters were travelling on bikes.

Moga superinten­dent of police (SP) Wazir Singh Khaira said the gang members had been operating under Lakhwinder Singh and Aman Jaitu of the Davinder Bambiha gang who are too wanted in several criminal cases. Khaira said they were planning three murders.

“The gang members snatched a Honda City car from a doctor at Ranjit Avenue in Amritsar and also robbed a person of a Maruti Baleno car at gunpoint in Bathinda in May. The gang made an unsuccessf­ul attempt to free a druglord Harbhajan Singh from police custody during his hearing at a Ferozepur court. Harbhajan is lodged at the Ferozepur jail after the police arrested him with 22 kilogram heroin,” said Khaira.

A case has been registered under the sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotrop­ic Substances Act (NDPS) Act.
