LATERAL ENTRY WAS LONG OVERDUE

The lateral entry of babus is a measure long overdue. Those who call it a retrograde step forget that a rapidly evolving economy must move with the times. Policy making must be specialised and dynamic. India must tap into its huge talent pool and enviable intellectual capital. The government should induct experts from diverse disciplines and include the disadvantaged as well. Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant has emphasised that the process must be transparent, objective and merit-based. The opposition has no grounds to criticise the move as the UPA too had lateral babus like Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Vijay Kelkar.
