Khattar’s Karnal second cleanest city in the north, 41st in country

BAGGING 2,958 MARKS OUT OF 4,000, CITY IMPROVES ITS RANKING FROM 65 LAST YEAR

KARNAL:CHIEF minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s constituen­cy Karnal has been ranked as the cleanest city in Haryana and the second among northern states by securing 41th position in the country under the Swachh Survekshan-2018.

Karnal has improved its ranking from the 65th slot last year and is the second cleanest city after Chandigarh, among the northern states of Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. Karnal bagged 2,958 marks out of 4,000.

Karnal and Rohtak are Haryana’s two cities among the 100 top cities of the country. Rohtak has scored the 89th position.

Notably, the Karnal MC has taken several initiative­s to improve cleanlines­s in the city like night sweeping, door-todoor garbage collection and installati­on of mobile and e-toilets in the city, which helped it improve the ranking.

As many as 4,203 cities in the country were covered under the Swachh Survekshan this year.

Karnal deputy commission­er (DC) Aditya Dahiya has congratula­ted the people of Karnal for the achievemen­t and said it was a result of the team work.

When contacted, former municipal corporatio­n (MC) commission­er Priyanka Soni, who took several initiative­s to improve cleanlines­s in Karnal, said, “It is a result of the collective efforts of the citizens and sanitation workers of Karnal as they extended all cooperatio­n to the MC.”

She added, “We also took several initiative­s like biometric attendance of safai karamchari­s. We also mobilised the people of Karnal to download the Swachhta App.”

Meanwhile, other cities of the state lagged far behind Karnal, with Gurgaon ranked at 105th position, followed by Panchkula at 142nd, Hisar 146th, Sonepat 156th, Ambala 159th and Kurukshetr­a 199th.

Ranked at 313th position, Yamunanaga­r is at the bottom of the list of 18 cities of Haryana covered in the survey.
