ROHTAK: A 22-year-old student in Rohtak committed suicide on Saturday over not getting admission in a good college for masters in science (MSC).

Rupesh Kumari, the daughter of a guard at Maharshi Dayanand University, shot herself with her father’s licensed pistol when her parents had gone for work.

In the suicide note left by Rupesh, she wrote that she could not get into a good college for MSC despite scoring 83% in the bachelors degree. “Ye sadma lekar nahin jee paungi ke mere padhne ke bawjood mereko kuchh nahi mila (Will not be able to live with the shock that I studied hard but didn’t get anything),” she wrote in the note.

The police said after completing her BSC, Rupesh was preparing for MSC, for which she had given several entrance exams. However, she could not clear the exam for her desired college.

“I wanted to study a lot and worked hard, but don’t know why I did not get results despite my hard work,” she wrote. She asked her father to hug her once before cremating her and apologised to her parents for taking this extreme step.

“My birthday is also coming… had thought of so many plans… but what to do, my destiny betrayed me,” she wrote.

The police said Rupesh shot herself in the head. Her neighbours informed the police when they heard the sound of gunshot. Her body was sent for postmortem to Post Graduate Institute of Medical Science (PGIMS) in Rohtak and later handed over to her family. No case has been registered.
