Gang of robbers busted in Hoshiarpur, six arrested

HOSHIARPUR : After a series of petrol pump looting incidents in the district, the police succeeded in nabbing six members of a gang involved in robbery and snatching cases.
A .32 bore pistol, two air pistols, a toy gun, sharp-edged weapons, 475gm of narcotics and three stolen motorcycles were recovered from them.
The arrested were identified as Gurpreet Singh of Alowal, Jagtar Singh of Dalamwal, Harmanjot Singh of Damunda, Rohit Kumar of Bassi Wajid, Hardip Singh of Ahrana Kalan and Sukhchain Singh of Bajraur.
The operation was jointly undertaken by the CIA staff, and policepersonnel from Dasuya and Hariana.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) J Elanchazhian said the gang was involved in at least nine robbery and snatching cases during the past one month. The same gang had looted a money changer in Piplanwala, he claimed. The two other accused, Sukhbir Singh of Begampura and Sonu of Daroli, are still at large, the SSP said, adding that the four of the accused had a criminal record and were out on bail.
The senior superintendent of police claimed that another accused, involved in the petrol pump robbery on the Una road, had also been arrested and was being interrogated.
Superintendent of police (investigation) Harpreet Singh Mander said the police were also investigating the recovery of 475gm of narcotic substance from the arrested people.
He revealed that the accused were drug addicts.
