SHIMLA: Chief minister Jai Ram Thakur on Saturday said the judiciary in Himachal Pradesh is known for its honesty. Thakur along with Supreme Court justice Kurian Joseph inaugurated the administrative block of the Judicial Academy in Ghandal, around 32 km from Shimla on Saturday.

“Both legislative and judiciary are working with a cause to serve people.the government will provide all possible help for improving judicial delivery system in the state,” said Thakur. The administrative building of the block was constructed with an estimated cost of ₹81 crore.

Thakur said even the Supreme Court in its report published in 2016 related to the sub-ordinate courts in India had stated that except North East states, Himachal Pradesh happens to be the most productive state with respect to old cases. He said the legislative, executive and judiciary were the base of any democracy and it was vital for all three branches to thrive in harmony. Thakur said ₹165 crore has already been sanctioned for the academy’s construction.

Former chief justice of HP high court and Supreme Court Justice Kurian Joseph said judges should remain updated with law for speedy justice. He also said judicial officers should not only decide cases but also deliver justice to common man. He also stressed the need for constant training of judicial officers.
