TARN TARAN: Two of the four people booked for allegedly assaulting a drug abuse prevention officer (DAPO) after he delivered a lecture against drugs at Cheema Kalan village, 30 km from here, on Sunday, were arrested on Tuesday.

TARNTARAN: Two of the four people booked for allegedly assaulting a drug abuse prevention officer (DAPO) after he delivered a lecture against drugs at Cheema Kalan village, 30 km from here, on Monday morning, were arrested on Tuesday by the Sadar police of the Patti subdivisio­n.

The accused have been identified as Jagir Singh and Karandeep Singh. The other two, who are yet to be arrested, are Kawaljit Singh and Dharambir Singh of the same village.

Sikandar Singh, 30, of Cheema Kalan village, said he is a DAPO and had been working in his village against the drug menace. He said he delivered a speech against drugs and drug peddlers in his village’s gurdwara on Sunday.

“On the night of Sunday, I got a call on my mobile by the accused. They threatened to kill me for raising voice against drugs. Later, I informed prominent people, including panchayat members, of my village about the call,” he said.

He said, “On Monday morning, around 8 am the accused, carrying sharp-edged weapons,

entered my house and attacked me when I was lying in bed. I suffered severe injuries in my arms and legs,” he added.

Assistant sub inspector (ASI) of Sadar Patti police station Gurbaksh Singh said efforts

were being made to nab the other two.

He said a case under sections 323 (punishment for voluntaril­y causing hurt), 326 (voluntaril­y causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 452

(house-trespass after preparatio­n for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtheranc­e of common intention) of the IPC had been registered against the accused.
