Hry govt trying to put lid on medicine purchase scam, says Dushyant
CHANDIGARH: Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader and Hisar MP Dushyant Chautala on Tuesday accused the Haryana government of brushing under the carpet a scam of Rs 100 to Rs 300 crore in the purchase of medicines and equipment under the National Health Mission (NHM) by the health department.
Addressing a press conference, he alleged that health minister Anil Vij was sheltering the accused and raised a question mark over the inaction of CM Manohar Lal Khattar.
Challenging the assertion of Vij that medicines worth only Rs 40 crore had been purchased, Chautala cited information obtained through the RTI Act that medicines worth Rs 808 crore had been purchased under the NHM and Haryana’s Medical Services Corporation (HMSC).
He said the inquiry conducted by the department into the ‘medicine purchase scam’ deliberately failed to take notice of the fraud carried out by unlicensed suppliers with the connivance of the health officials. The MP said that there was ample evidence of the fraud committed as the companies from which the medicines were purchased had not been granted drug licences . Dushyant said that all the charges he was levelling were supported by documentary evidence obtained through the RTI Act.
“I have written to the Union health minister JP Nadda demanding thorough inquiry by the CBI since it is now obvious that either the state health minister does not know what is happening in his department or he is in connivance with the corrupt,” the MP said.
WILL PROBE IF DUSHYANT PROVIDES DOCUMENTS: VIJ
Meanwhile, Vij said if Dushyant provides documents supporting his alleged charges, a complete investigation will be conducted and guilty punished.
