AMBALA: The gathering of at least 13,000 people largely comprising INLD and BSP workers that had come to demand completion of SYL besides Dadupur Naqvi and Mewat canals at the rally ground in Ambala’s New Anaaj Mandi was detained on Friday.

The administration announced from the stage that the rally ground had been declared as a temporary jail and the entire gathering was ‘under arrest’.

Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) senior leader and leader of opposition in the Haryana assembly, Abhay Chautala, and INLD state president Ashok Arora were also the part of the gathering, which was, however, let-off later.

Addressing the joint rally of INLD and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) workers, Abhay claimed that due to massive response, the administration had collapsed and the government did not have arrangement to detain them even for 24 hours.

‘BJP LURED PEOPLE WITH FALSE PROMISES’

He said during the 10 years of Congress ‘misrule’, people were lured by false promises made by the BJP, and now they were ‘disenchanted’ as the BJP government, both at the Centre and the state, ‘failed to deliver on its promises’. Chautala said the people of the state have accepted the third front and the INLD– BSP combine will claim a comfortable majority in the next year’s assembly elections.

He said the BJP had assumed power by making ‘false promises’ and none of its poll promise was fulfilled.

“The voters have made up their mind to remove the present anti-people government,” Abhay added.

INLD leader said if voted to power, the party will ensure the SYL water for the state, remission of farmers’ loans, ₹15,000 unemployment allowance and ₹2,500 old-age pension besides slash in power tariff.

BSP state president Parkash Bharti and INLD state president Ashok Arora also addressed the gathering.
