ROCKY SHARMA WAS WANTED IN MANY CASES, INCLUDING KIDNAPPING AND ATTEMPT TO MURDER; A COP ALSO INJURED

KARNAL: Police on Saturday arrested wanted criminal Rocky Sharma after an encounter in Noltha village of Panipat district.

Panipat deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Jagdeep Doon said the cyber cell of the Panipat police had received inputs that Rocky was hiding at Noltha. A police team reached the village and tried to arrest him, but he opened fire in which a head constable was injured. After a brief exchange of fire, the police managed to arrest the criminal, the DSP said. “A pistol and 11 cartridges were recovered from him,” he added

The police said Rocky also received injury in his leg and was admitted to the Panipat civil hospital. He will be produced in a local court on Sunday

The police said a bullet hit head constable Dinesh Kumar in the chest. He was rushed to the civil hospital from where he was shifted to a private hospital. His condition was said to be stable.

Rocky, a resident of Rajiv Colony of Panipat, was wanted in several criminal cases, including kidnapping and attempt to murder. Over the past 10 days, he was issuing threats to kill his five friends and had even fired at his friend Rajan Kumar on last Wednesday.

As per the police record, Rocky, who is married and is father of a child, had also kidnapped his friend Arshad’s sister about a month ago. The police do not have any clue about her yet.

Earlier this month, he set fire to a gym of his friend in Panipat. He had also threatened to kill his four other friends through posts on his Whatsapp account, following which special police teams were formed to arrest him.

The DSP said the accused has been booked for attempt to murder and relevant sections of the Arms Act. He said the police will seek his remand to get information about the girl he kidnapped last month.
