F1 BATTLE HEADS TO HUNGARY

-

With the 2018 Formula 1 season heading into a break after this Sunday’s Hungarian Grand Prix, championship leader Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes is hoping to extend his lead over title rival Sebastian Vettel in Hungaroring.

Both Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel are tied on four wins this season, albeit the former has built a 17-point lead after his German GP win.

Hamilton has won the Hungarian GP five times in the past, more than any other driver in history, but none of them have been in title-winning seasons.

Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen has made more podium appearances (eight) in Hungary than any current driver. He has, however, won the race only once - in 2005.

With Ferrari and Mercedes fighting toe to toe, the two F1 heavyweights are separated by just eight points in the constructors’ championship.

Fourteen of the 32 races on this track have been won from pole. Before Vettel last year, Hamilton had achieved the feat in 2013.

No driver has won the Hungarian GP and gone on to win the title in the last 14 years. The last driver to do so was Michael Schumacher in 2004.

20

With Red Bull expected to fare well in Hungary, Max Verstappen could become the youngest ever pole sitter if he tops qualifying on Saturday.

105

Kimi Raikkonen has now gone 105 races since his last win in Australia in 2013. The former world champion has grabbed pole only once since 2008.
