HISAR: Chief minister (CM) Manohar Lal Khattar, who will be the chief guest at the Independence Day function here, might announce the date of inauguration of the much-awaited Hisar airport.

On July 4, Rajya Sabha MP Subhash Chandra, during a visit to Hisar, had told mediapersons that flights from Hisar airport would start soon but not from August 15, a deadline set by the state government.

Requesting anonymity, a senior official attached with works of the Hisar airport said, “More than 80% work has already been finished. The terminal, runway, boundary walls, fencing and parking have been completed and the rest of the final touches will be done by August 10.”

A team from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) had recently visited the Hisar airport to inspect renovation on the airstrip. After the final touches to the terminal, entry and departure points, flights between Hisar-delhi, which will take around 35 minutes and Hisar-chandigarh, which will take 20 minutes, might see light of the day soon.

As many as 80 jawans of the third battalion of the Haryana Police will reach the airport by August 10 and take charge of security of the airport.

On June 15, the state government had announced to start flights to Chandigarh and Delhi from Hisar from August 15, after a meeting with chief secretary DS Dhesi.
