TARN TARAN: A 30-year-old man committed suicide by allegedly consuming some poisonous substance in Kale village, falling under Bhikhiwind sub-division, on Wednesday night.

A suicide note given to the police by his family stated that he was ending his life ‘because of his wife’.

The deceased has been identified as Rajesh Kumar of Bhikhwind. On complaint of the Rajesh’s brother, Rahul Kumar, the Bhikhiwind police booked Rajesh’s wife, Sonam.

“We own a cycle repair shop at Bhikhiwind. On Wednesday evening, after we closed the shop, I left for home while my brother went somewhere. At around 9pm, we tried calling him but he didn’t pick up the phone. We were worried and informed the police at around 11pm. We tried to find him but in vain,” said Rahul.

He said, “On Thursday morning, the police had informed us that they found Rajesh’s body from an abandoned plot in Kale village. Soon after getting the information, we rushed there and found his body was lying on ground. There was a bottle of poison in his hand.”

He further said, “We then found a suicide note written by Rajesh from his room. In the note he had blamed his wife and demanded action against her. The note has been handed over to the police.”

Rahul said that his brother was upset over his wife’s behaviour. “She along with her family had been harassing my brother,” he added.

Investigating officer, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Narinder Singh, said, “We have registered a case under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code against Rajesh’s wife and the investigation is under process.”

Rajesh marriage with Sonam was solemnised around 6 years ago and the couple has a fiveyear-old daughter.
