Residents’ body chief on indefinite hunger strike in Hisar
HISAR: Residents of various sectors of Hisar are protesting against the enhancement notice served by the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran, earlier knows as Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) in front of MLA Kamal Gupta’s residence.
Jitender Sheoran, president of the residents’ welfare association (RWA), sat on a hunger strike till death from Friday while five women members dressed in black began a relay hunger strike with Sheoran.
Sheoran said, “Earlier, we handed over a letter to the deputy commissioner (DC), Ashok Kumar Meena, informing about the hunger strike. On August 1, we tried to begin the strike but the police removed our tents and asked us to maintain law and order. We were told that we can hold our protest 100 metres away from the MLA’S house.
“We were also assured by the DC Meena that they will take our core committee to Panchkula so we can meet the chief administrator of HUDA. The local administration failed to keep the promise and from Friday,
we started our protest 101 metres away from the MLA’S house,” he added.
Sheoran said they were getting support of other welfare association as well and that the notices being served to residents are unjustified and an additional burden.
The Haryana Urban Development Authority had served enhancement notices to residents in Sector 1, 4, 3, 5, 15, 13, 16 and 17.
The residents opposed the move saying that they had already purchased their houses and plots at high rates.
